NordVPN - The best VPN available? Cheapest VPN for most features. VPN review

(Note: For a comprehensive comparison of features and prices for different VPNs, click on this VPN and Proxy Comparison list.)

NordVPN is one of the most feature rich VPN services I have seen; not only that, but it is also one of the cheapest! If you are considering using a VPN or switching over to a better VPN service, you should give NordVPN a chance. They even offer a free trial if you email their support.

At $5.75 a month, you are probably not going to find a better VPN service. One thing I like about NordVPN's pricing is how straightforward  the pricing is.  $5.75 a month is a great deal for the features you are getting.

Let's get down to what makes NordVPN so amazing. Features, features, features! Where other VPN services see what they can get away with in lack of features, NordVPN seems to do the opposite where the offer as many features as they possibly can.

Many of these features you can find with other VPN companies, but a few things stand out that I have not seen anyone offer besides NordVPN:

  • Connecting 6 devices at the same time. While other VPN companies offer 1-2 devices at a time, 6 is rather incredible!
  • Free proxies.
  • Double VPN protection.
  • Automatic kill switch.
  • TOR and router support.
  • Just about any payment method conceivable.

NordVPN's website is nearly as impressive as their feature list. Everything is incredibly easy to navigate and intuitive. Nothing is hidden and all important info is easy to find. Want to chat to support? Bottom right hand corner. Want server info? Upper right. Basically, everything is where you would expect it to be. There are fantastic tutorials and FAQs that answer any question you might have.

Customer Service

I saw that there was a chat box in the bottom right hand corner, so just out of curiosity I decided to chat to see how long it would take me to be able to chat with a real person.

Less than 15 seconds! I was very impressed by how quickly I got a response to talk to real customer support. The support was friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, I didn't have any real questions that I needed help with but that was because everything on their website is so straightforward, I would not really ever have a reason to talk to support.

NordVPN has servers located all throughout the world but the bulk of the servers seem to be located in Europe.

One thing that I appreciate with their server list is that they categorize different servers for different purposes such as: Double VPN, Tor over VPN, Ultra fast TV, Anti DDoS, Dedicated IP servers, etc.

While not being meticulously scientific, I did run a couple of speed tests to compare my Internet speeds with and without the VPN. I must say that I was quite happy that there was not a significant difference.

With no VPN.

With NordVPN

All in all, I would have to say that out of all the VPN services I have used, NordVPN so far is my favorite. It definitely gives you the biggest bang for your buck.

Pros of NordVPN:
  • One of the cheaper VPNs available.
  • OpenVPN support.
  • Software for Mac and Windows.
  • Can be used with your Wi-Fi router if it has Tomato or DD-WRT.
  • Fantastic website that is easy to navigate.
  • Quick customer support.
  • Connect 6 devices at once.
  • Other features that most other VPN service providers don't offer.
Cons of NordVPN:
  • No Linux software (kind of stretching on that one... but I have to have at least one con right?).
Remember, NordVPN offers a free trial, so contact support to try it out!

  1. I just don't get it... $8 is double to for the service I pay for. You should better try Hide My IP out. At $2.95/month, user gets the same service with no lag and an ability to stream Netflix ;)
